Once upon a time we all made our way down the high street to book our ski holidays, hell bent on becoming... Read More
With the excellent snow conditions across the Alps, this weekend saw the annual mass exodus of family skiers and snowboarders heading to the Alps to start their half term ski holidays. Ports were busy we are told, and as we saw first hand this morning ourselves, airports were heaving with ski bags, suitcases, and hundreds of children of all sizes, excited and itching to get to their destination and onto the snowy, powdery, ski slopes!
The excitement on the youngsters faces was palpable, infectious for all, but if you are fairly new to family ski holidays, where’s good to go:
High on our list if you are looking for a great value half term ski holiday for beginners and early intermediates is La Plagne in France. Offering high altitude skiing, but gentle slopes, in and around the beginner areas, La Plagne has a great snow record and with its gentle slopes it is the perfect place to build confidence. Checkout Chalet Boule de Niege, a fabulous, great value family ski chalet in La Plagne 1800 that sleeps up to 14 people on a catered basis (book early as one of our top ski chalets for families and value for money).

For deeper pockets, we love Courchevel 1850 with its fabulously wide and flattering pistes at the bottom. Here learning to ski is mixed with long lunches, lots of sunshine, and open spaces for the children to play and explore. High on the list, but not one to leave late to book due to its unenviable ski in ski out position on the piste is Shemsak Lodge.
For mixed abilities looking fro a great value half term ski holiday would do well to checkout La Tania, access to the Three Vallees ski area at a fraction of the price of near neighbours Meribel and Courchevel, but all the same slopes. But our favourite is Les Menuires. Situated at 1,800m, it offers some of the best snow sure conditions in the Alps and has over 600km of high altitude pistes for all abilities, and some great off-piste too! Checkout Chalet Jasmine for a great family ski chalet sleeping up to 10 people at a pleasantly surprising price. Other great resorts, particularly for mixed groups with beginners and intermediates include Morzine and Chatel in the Portes du Soliel.

But for those that prefer not to ask the price, Zermatt has to be high on the list. A traffic free resort, here class, sophistication, luxury chalets and fabulous skiing all go hand in hand. A truly luxurious half term ski holiday experience and you can enjoy fabulous luxury ski chalets that will take your breath away, like Chalet Maurice or for that modern elegant charm, Chalet Case d’Amor that accommodates 8 comfortably in luxury.
