Late Spring Skiing – Snow Sure Resorts

Looking for a great late spring ski chalet holiday but not sure where to go for an April snow sure skiing holiday? Why nothing can be truly guaranteed, here are our top tips for making some good, calculated choices, that generally won’t let you down. Three things we recommend you look for:

  • High Altitude
  • North Facing Slopes
  • Good Snowmaking facilities

Lower resorts tend to start closing down around the middle of April, but there are many high-altitude ski resorts that are still open, and will do so well into May. Plus if you like to party, you will find by the end of April, early May, quite a few ‘locals’ and chalet workers ready to party in the pubs & clubs too celebrate the fabulous season and squeeze the last juice of fun from this years ski season.

Top tips for your Chalet Ski Holidays Trip in April:

  • Ski from 9:00am to 2pm, so you can enjoy the groomed pistes at the start, while avoiding the warmer slopes as they soften in the afternoons
  • Take the last ski lift down to the resort at the end of the day to avoid the lower slopes that can be cut up and slushy at the bottom later on, and often busy (and the inevitable funnelling).
  • Enjoy a long leisurely lunch after 2pm then join in on the après ski in the resort well into the evening.
  • Ask the locals where it’s best to ski and at what time of day – the nice one’s will tell you, one or two might want to keep it a secret as for many, January and April are their favourite months.

And lastly

  • Pack plenty of high factor sun block – the sun and the white mountains this time are year are a particularly strong combination.
