Once upon a time we all made our way down the high street to book our ski holidays, hell bent on becoming... Read More
Probably the second most popular week off the ski season, the half term ski holidays have become the prime family ski holiday since schools actively discouraged (we choose our words carefully here) taking children outside of Christmas,half-term and the easter ski holidays. Unprecedented demand therefore means demand exceeds supply so similarly to the new year ski holidays, this is one week we strongly advise you do not leave booking to the last minute. So assuming you book early, the next question is where and what. So here is a brief guide from your Chalet Ski Holidays team:

Children, particularly at a younger age are typically not prone to enjoying long walks in ski boots, carrying poles etc. Neither are they good at getting on the local ski resort buses, therefore we advise you look for something that is ideally ski in ski out or not greater than 300m or 400m from the piste unless they are providing in resort transfers (more on this in a minute). Also, if they are having lessons, ideally as close to the ski school too.

Of course, if the chalet operates in resort transfers this really helps too. Not quite as good as automatically walking out on to the slopes next to the ski school, but it is a pretty good second choice nevertheless. However, if you have particularly young children just check the hours of operation. Ski lift drop offs at the start and end of the day are ok in most cases, but are not great for younger children who won’t want, or to be honest, won’t be able to ski all day.Share
Skiing and snowboarding should be about fun. If you have particularly young children, 3 to 5 years old and sometimes older, a morning is typically best. Many ski schools offer ski lessons in the morning and creche in the afternoon. It is a great formulae in our opinion. Alternative, pick one of our chalet that offers a Nanny service where children are dropped off and then picked up from ski school and looked after at the chalet. The true marque of luxury on your half term ski holiday.

Most children below the age of twelve will not be too concerned about the nightlife so home comforts should in our opinion sit above how close the chalet is to the town centre. Firstly therefore checkout the photos to see if it looks children friendly. Are there areas for children to break out to or play in comfort and safety. Do they have toys and games? Television and play stations / Wii are always a hit too. Or for the truly luxury half term skiing holiday, a Games Room, Cinema Room, swimming pool, or all three?

And finally for the parents, is there a good staff to client ratio to ensure the children can be entertained and parents from time to time can sit back, relax, and enjoy a glass of wine or two.
