Easter Ski Holidays

One of the Chalet Ski Holidays teams favourite times to ski, the Easter Ski Holidays are probably one of the most under rated weeks of the year. Typically warm sunshine and great spring snow, particularly in the higher ski resorts,  we have often skied spring powder snow ranging from 30cm up to 80cm in bright blue skies too!

Family Skiing Easter

In terms of why it is so good, lets start with families first. Children, particularly at a young age may find the cold earlier in the season slightly off putting, and whilst Easter ski holidays can be cold and snowy from time to time, typically you can expect warmer, sunnier days than early in the season (but don’t under pack just in case).

Warm children means happy children on the slope. The snow also softens as the morning progresses making it easier to turn and a little more forgiving to practice those Super G turns if you’re five years old! Then after skiing, mid afternoon it is a great time to come together and have those last few runs as a family before finding a mountain restaurant for a late lunch. Parents to catch some sun whilst the children play in the snow, building snowmen, sledging, whatever takes theirs, and mum’s and dad’s, fancy – you have the rest of the afternoon! Perfect and many a happy memory remains from our own experience.

But one last thing for families, please don’t forget  the sun cream as the sun in the alps is strong, least of all Easter as it rises higher in the sky in March and April.Share

Easter Skiing For Groups

For many it is the second extravagance of the ski season, the last hurrah before we pack skis and snowboards away until next year. But even if it is your first of the season, the main break, it is still a great choice. Firstly, Bank Holidays mean that you only have four days out of the office for the six days skiing. Despite the Bank Holiday bonus, prices are generally considerably cheaper than the other major holidays during the ski season and therefore you also get more for less.

But the above is only half of the tale in respect of why it is such a great time to ski. As we have already mentioned, the snow, particularly in higher ski resorts is often excellent, the sunshine brilliant, and days longer too. The mornings start with manicured pistes that slowly warm as the day unfolds. As the sun rises by midday it is a chance to ski those last few south facing runs before popping across on to the North facing slopes and then a late lunch in the sunshine in your favourite panoramic mountain restaurant. The sun high in the sky, this for some will be the best part of the Easter Ski vacation. Kick back in the deck chair, facing south, and enjoy a cold beer or glass or wine as you soak in those sun rays. The longer days means you don’t have to rush, ski lifts stay open longer and the sun remains in the sky well into the evening.

Then it is off to the bars for some great apres-ski, the ski resorts inhabitants relaxed in the spring sun and warmth. Alternative, grab the credit card and stroll along the alpine streets, pop into a shop or two and grab a late ski season bargain.

Yes, that’s the Easter Ski Holidays, one of the best kept skiing and snowboarding secrets in the Alps!
