Beautiful St Martin de Belleville

Is your idea of skiing holiday staying in a built up resort or a traditional alpine village with winding streets, character embedded into every stone, panoramic views and within a large ski area?

Well you might have been searching for this but St Martin de Belleville has been a whispered secret for those in the know for many years.

Located within the 3 Vallees, which as most of you know has 600km of pistes, great off piste and generally renowned as a ski area to suit all abilities.  Most will have heard of Courchevel, Meribel, La Tania but St Martin de Belleville has stayed off the radar.  Situated at 1450m, the same height as Meribel, this beautiful Savoyard village is in the Belleville Valley just down from the more purpose built Les Menuires.  A wide blue piste with afternoon sun, winds its way down the mountain, dotted with beautiful old chalets, into the heart of the village and centre.  In fact if you build up a bit too much speed you may end in the church interrupting their après ski concerts, though you may have need of divine intervention if you have made it that far!

Is it too quiet?

There are actually 2,600 tourist beds in St Martin de Belleville but they are hidden away in the converted stone barns and hamlets, creating a peaceful village atmosphere.  Four local bars will keep you entertained with après ski and quiz nights or visit the local restaurants including the renowned La Bouitte which has been awarded its 3rd Michelin Star.

But you are too far out of the main ski area I hear?

No, there are 2 covered lifts, including the new 6 man high speed chairlift, which whisk you up to the top of the mountain and if you leave at 9am you can be at the top of Val Thorens or over in the Bel Aire restaurant in Courchevel 1650 by 10:30am.  Plus out of the 600km in the 3 Vallees area, 300km are just in the Belleville Valley which comprises of St Martin de Belleville, Les Menuires and Val Thorens. Which means more skiing, on quiet pistes on your doorstep.

We want to go on holiday with our family

This is a very family friendly village with 2 excellent ski schools ESF and British New Generation.  For non-skiers the lifts will take pedestrians all the way into Meribel and then to Courchevel.  Or you can use the local buses to take you up the valley to Val Thorens or Les Menuires so you can meet the rest of your party for lunch.  If you’d rather stay local enjoy the guided Snow Shoe walks or Dog Sledding along the Doron river or relax in the 2 local spas – La Béla Vya and Ô des Cîmes.

What’s the snow like at Easter?

The main blue piste home run does get the afternoon & evening sun so can suffer with slush like most south facing slopes but the Commune has just invested in top of the range snow cannons to combat this; but if your legs are too tired after all the extensive skiing then you are able to jump on the St Martin lift, down to the village, at any time of year.

Where can we stay? We have hand picked some beautiful chalets in the village with high quality food, personal attention to detail and a home from home experience.  Stay in Abode a Boutique Savoie refurbished Farmhouse sleeping 8-10 people, The Ecurie a converted rustic former stable with the wow factor sleeping 8 people or Chamois Lodge a new build but with cutting edge alpine decor sleeping 6-9 people.
